Okay, so I know it is it is finals but I had to post this. Since I have come to Bryn Mawr, I have gotten slack about being from Georgia from a select few. I just want everyone to know, this would never happen in the South without more press. One, people would be outraged and two, violence would ensue. Based on my experiences, I am now convinced that the south is more liberal than north. Gasp!
I think it is because in the North, people are taught that they are automatically more accepting because of where they were born; therefore they they never make an effort to learn anything relating to diversity. Also, the north is more homogenous. In the south, even if you live in Jump Off Mississppi, there will be somewhere there that is diffreent than you . To compensate for the stereotypes about the south, most people parents beat acceptance into their children once they are old enough to understand differences. That, and I feel that in the north it is more acceptable to stay in the same place your whole life. If you can, most people in the south move somewhere, anywhere. I could be wrong about my theory, but I don’t think so! For sure, no one in there right mind in the south would name their kid Adolf Hitler. Read the article and tell me what you think.
